Lockdown Learning from home!

When the coronavirus pandemic forced schools to abruptly shut down, people scrambled to make distance learning happen. Despite schools inevitably having planned for the drastic change, for parents and children alike it was emergency remote learning with the emphasis on “emergency,” rather than on “learning.”

Now that the dust has settled, and some time has passed - I’m sure you’ve worked out a comfortable system to maximise your child’s learning. But why not check out some of our helpful tips? With the vast majority of our tenants being families, we thought we’d adapt our recent blog to help out the little ones too!

A desk of one’s own isn’t an absolute necessity for educational success— some people prefer the old fashioned kitchen table! The most important thing is to have one consistent spot (even if it’s in a multipurpose room like a dining room) where kids can follow a learn-at-home routine. Much like our suggestion recently for you to put some physical emphasis on your home-work balance, you should

do the same for your children! When the clock chimes 3pm, this allows them to still feel like it’s home time, which will further enforce the idea that they still have to work hard during the school hours!

Other children, particularly older ones, may want more privacy, especially if they’re frequently in video classes and your presence is distracting. You can create a dedicated, semi-private study area by partitioning off part of your living room or suggesting they work in their bedroom!

Whatever you decide, we hope that your experience with lockdown is as positive as it can be and that you are all adjusting well to the current circumstances.
