How to still have a great Christmas in 2020…

The year is coming into a close, and whilst the festive holiday is normally a time for family, friends and togetherness - we’ve spent the better part of 2020 being denied those very things. Theres no denying that times have changed since last year, and with that in mind - here’s a few ideas / tips you can use to ensure you enjoy your holiday this year.

Prioritise the traditions that matter the most to you!

You may not be celebrating the holiday the exact same way, but that doesn’t mean you should throw out your yearly traditions. It’s a common fact that although Christmas is one of the most widely celebrated holidays, it’s very rarely a similar day for those who celebrate it. In 2020, there’s no reason for that to change. Set up the decorations (there’s still time), and put the arrangements in place to safe guard your traditions this year.

Do your gift shopping early (as in yesterday!)

Online shopping is normally hectic this time of year - so imagine how hectic it’s going to be when its the only option. Don’t delay! (And a helpful tip, if you’re worried about it coming to you so you can wrap it first, just deliver it straight to the recipient and tick ‘includes a gift’ - saving yourself time you may not have!

Find ways to make the memories

As mentioned, we’ve been separated from our families and friends for quite some time - and if you’re unfortunately having to continue that streak over Christmas then it’s important not to isolate yourself. It’s still the time for family, and with a plethora of online platforms to choose from, it’s never been easier to connect remotely with your loved ones. Set them up on the TV, get yourself settled - it’ll be just like you’re right there with them!

Be optimistic!

Change isn’t always bad, and whilst this year is certainly not to be celebrated, why not look at it with a glass half full mentality? Everyone has those classic Christmas memories, but normally people’s days are so regimented that the special moments get lost in the stress of cooking, hosting, etc! Things that stick out often create the best memories, and we should go into that open minded this year. Say what you want about 2020, no one can deny it’s been a memorable one.

‘Tis the season for giving!

If 2020 has taught us anything, it’s that human relationships are special to us. Why not spread the Christmas joy this year? Write out some cards you might not normally bother with, Why not (safely) visit that neighbour who lives alone? Why not go the extra mile and deliver some festive treats of whatever you fancy to a local hospital, nursing home, or fire department? I’m sure everyone could do with some pleasant surprises this year!
